For twenty years, Noah Schall was my teacher — and for much of that time, a close friend.
When the moment came to publish his final Shabbat works, I understood what it meant. It became a ten-year project and a labour of love: T'hillot Netzach, Shabbat nusach improvisations for the modern cantor, with no repeats of the text. Traditional notation, study videos and recordings — so that a hazzan anywhere in the world can learn the nusach the way it was meant to be sung.
Many celebrated cantors and colleagues have lauded the work. But the honour was mine: to give back, in some small measure, to the leading authority on hazzanut of this generation. May his memory be for a blessing.
